Dr Katharine Hodgkinson was invited to contribute to the Australian Brain Cancer Mission Survivorship workshop in Sydney on Friday 16th August to identify priorities for brain cancer research investment. The day was attended by Professor Dorothy Keefe (CEO Cancer Australia) and researchers, clinicians, academics and those with a lived experience of brain cancer from around Australia.
Julie McCrossin facilitated the day which opened with a review of
survivorship evidence.  Throughout the day there was ongoing discussion on the key role of care coordinators and health care delivery pathways. Improving support for patients, carers and families was identified in regard to the broad and wide reaching impacts of brain cancer for paediatric, adolescent, young adult, and adult populations, and hopefully will drive research to improve care experiences and outcomes.

The Australian Brain Cancer Mission – is a collaboration between Cure Brain Cancer Foundation, the Federal Government, and the Eliminate Cancer Initiative. Associate Professor David Ziegler hopes The Misison will lead to a dramatic increase in brain cancer survival, as seen in diseases like childhood leukaemia. The Mission is underpinned by investment strategies with the onus being on increased patient survival, quality of life and care experience.
