“But I know about eating a healthy diet, what will I get out of an appointment with a dietitian? Is it just going to be another appointment to keep?”
As an Accredited Practising Dietitian I will:
- Assess your nutritional needs and goals at this particular point in your life – I will ask a number of questions to ascertain your medical history and current health and wellbeing
- Develop a personalised eating plan and nutrition guidelines in collaboration with you and your personal dietary, health and lifestyle goals
- Provide nutrition counselling and support as needed, including answering questions and reviewing the merits of other nutrition advice for you at present
- Provide information on healthy eating, shopping for food, eating out and preparing food at home to help you implement behaviour changes to achieve your goals
Depending on individual variables such as your general health, tolerance and side effects from any cancer treatments that you may be having or have undergone, your confidence with shopping and meal preparation, as well as other health conditions (such as diabetes, obesity or heart conditions), we may need between one and five individual appointments to achieve our objectives. Individuals who feel that their needs were addressed in one consultation, often benefit from a short review consultation either a few weeks/one months later to review their progress, understand their progress and address any challenges that may have arisen in achieving their health goals.Handouts and resources are provided to assist with your understanding of the nutritional and dietetic information that will be provided in the consultation.
