Peter is a Consulting Psychologist who brings a mature and respectful client-focused approach to his practice, and enjoys working with a range of presentations and clients. Peter has a passion for working alongside clients to facilitate and support their adjustment in the face of change, loss and grief in all of its forms, and is keen to share strategies to navigate symptoms of anxiety and depression that can arise in response to many of life’s stresses. Through his involvement with HeadwayHealth, he has developed a strong interest in supporting those who are undergoing cancer treatments as well as those who care for someone with cancer. Peter also brings a passion for working together with male clients on strategies for enhancing mental and physical health across the lifespan, with a focus on working on ‘healthspan’ and ‘healthy life years’.
Peter provides evidence-based therapeutic approaches derived from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) and Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT) techniques and mindfulness.
Peter’s journey to becoming a clinical psychologist was inspired by his voluntary work in non-profit organisations and support groups in the adoptive community, as well as his role as the primary carer for his children. Peter previously enjoyed a successful career as a Chartered Accountant, working in both large and small practices and his own consultancy. Outside of work Peter enjoys rowing, cycling and skiing, and fitness associated with his background competing at an international level in adventure racing.
Peter completed his Bachelor of Psychological Science with First Class Honours at Deakin University in Victoria, and a pursued advanced training through his Master of Clinical Psychology at Charles Sturt University, NSW, during which time he joined the team at HeadwayHealth as part of his practical clinical placements in 2023. Peter offers in-person and telehealth consultations through the Centre for Wellbeing at the Mater Hospital North Sydney, and from HeadwayHealth Frenchs Forest rooms which are located on Frenchs Forest Road along from the Northern Beaches Hospital and GenesisCare’s Frenchs Forest treatment centre.
Peter is a Member of the Australian Psychological Society and member of the Psycho-oncology Co-operative Research Group. Peter has obtained working clearance from the Office of the Children’s Guardian Working with Children Check, and the Australian Federal Police National Police Check. Peter has a passion for ongoing learning and engages in professional clinical supervision with Avnee Lagad to advance his learning for membership of the College of Clinical Psychologists of the Australian Psychological Society.
